About A5 paper
A5 is exactly half of A4: cut or fold an A4 sheet across its long side and you have two A5 pages. That makes A5 a natural size for notebooks, planners, leaflets, flyers, booklets and invitations.
An A5 sheet laid flat fits a C5 envelope (162 × 229 mm). Folded once it becomes A6 (105 × 148 mm), which fits a C6 envelope (114 × 162 mm).
Many printers can put two A5 pages on one A4 sheet, which you then cut or fold. If you are designing at A5, plan for 3 mm of bleed if a print shop will trim the pages.
A5 compared with the other A sizes
Each A size is half the area of the one before, and every sheet has the same 1 : 1.414 shape. This table shows how many A5 sheets fill each size:
